You just cant do the things you can do with Nvidia cards. I'm sorry
to say this but i dont care how fast your card is if. A.) your image
quaility sucks. B.) you can only do one (hard ware related) thing
with it.

It's hard to tell. ATI used to be terrible at just windows based
support a few years ago. They have come a long way in that arena.
It's just really hard to tell where they will be in just 2 to 3
years. Although, I am not sure where the market is. Are most of
the products they sell used on Windows?

I'm very sorry to say that I doubt it. To ATI, Linux support is
nothing more than an asterik on a piece of paper whereas to NVidia
good Linux drivers are a vital and important component of their
business model. Hence the rather large disparity.

I use the CCC and it's pretty neat. When playing a game, I don't
think you really notice the 'optimised' setting instead of trilinear
setting. Heck, sometimes I don't even know at what setting my AA and
AF is at. (but many times I think it's too low)
Anyway, I use an x800pro card, and love it. Had NVidia before and
didn't like it. My chipset is Nvidia. Can't call me fanboy, cause I
use both. :P

I personally have had no problems with ATI drivers. Maybe I am just
lucky. If I compare my XT card to when I bought it until now, it
perfoms rock solid, stable and better then when I bought it. Sorry
to hear some people are having problems.

btw, the control center still does not allow the global setting of
trilinear filtering. they still insist on using
"optimized" settings for every game. the consumer has no
idea what is going on behind the scene. ati is covering up a lot of
flaws on their hardware design.

the ati spin doctors are hard at work again. no wonder firing squid
is first out the door to hail the catalyst drivers. applabs is
another ati boy toy. it would be interesting to see the details on
the study that concluded the catalyst is more stable than the
detonator drivers of nvidia.
unbelievable how money bends tech results. anything that runs on
.net has never been stable. lol.

CCC suck. I never used those drivers and I hope they don't abandon
the Control Panel version, which is fast and rock-solid. I hope in
the next review you present both of them :)

The Catalyst Control Center still sucks. I installed these drivers
with CCC then promptly uninstalled them and installed the one
without CCC. CCC is causing my screen to draw extremely slow and my
overall system performace is sluggish as well. The CCC-less driver
is rock solid though.
