It is not possible to use an official Nvidia WHQL driver because
there are issues with the game. That's why Nvidia released a newer
beta driver to get it working with BF2.
IMHO.... It's also subjective how one views WHQL drivers. It's
stable? not really actually because everything is as good as beta.
If the current driver set works on the machine, keep it. See a bug
in new game, probably it needs new drivers or a game fix.

deadlines? what deadlines? that is a concept not practiced in PC
games. did you notice their slogan during development... its done
when its done. yet we get a sloppy job in the end. the game
developers are better off hiring people who dont use drugs or drink
coffee like water. and no more primadonnas please.

"BF2 has a lot more things to deal with. How many times did you
face 60+ enemies at the same time on your screen in FarCry?"
Exactly. Geez you closed map deathmatch folks dont have a clue. By
the way, When Tribes 2 was release it had similiar issues. Now you
can play that game with 60+ players on a server fullout battle and
it doesnt even choke. Kudos to DICE for the challenging attaempt and
a game that will get better.

Yes the game seems a bit buggy with performace issues, BUT I'll give
it credit OVER Half-Life 2, Doom 3 etc. Why? Because it truly is a
full immersive warfare style FPS game. Until Tribes this just never
existed. Its nice to see another big title trying to move itself
OUTSIDE the boxed in maps. (CSS is old and boring).

BF 1942 felt buggy. Vietnam seemed worse, but it had grass
sprites!!!!!! Can't see any reason to get excited about BF until
they get new programers.

Look at theinquirer.net benchmark tests from last weekend - they say
they got the demo record n playback working... ran the same
recording back on different pcs... got graphs and everything
but I think your article is way better with all the screenies of
different graffix setups
but... they did test SLI.. ;)

RE: programmers = sloppy.
You got a tight deadline. Dozens of caffeine freaks cranking away.
Long list of 'must' and 'wanna' features. And bosses and the
publishers screaming over your back about deadlines. Yeah, its a
wonder Mac or Linux versions of games were EVER released.
However, the game definetly looks like it need a few more min in the
oven before its done. Hopefully retail version, or first patch will
smooth out some quirks and improve performance.
IS THE GAME MULTI-THREADED?
This seems like the perfect game to do that with, and with dual-core
cpu imminent, the perfect timing.

Single player should get better graphics before multiplayer games
and really I do not belive enough people have systems able to run
BF2 fast enough for it to work as an online game and face it the
little single player part it just to support online play. With a
game based on online play it needs the word of mouth that only a
good launch can bring. Right now I here too many people complaining
to think this game will really bring in enough players to make it a
hit with hundreds of people online at any given time.

its benn proven in many different games that you require less power
to achieve more. this game is badly programmed and that fact
remains. look at starwars battlefront, even its gfx are better than
this game and it runs on lower end pcs at high detail levels. i have
no problem running BF2 at max details 1280x1024 4xAA and 8xAF on my
computer but im feeling for all the other people who don't have as
new a machine as mine. the game developers are getting sloppy and
its having a big effect on the people who can't afford the latest
hardware and a lot of people fall into that category. this game does
nothing fancy that requires such a high spec. even with 100 bots all
thats requiring is cpu power for the AI, but in multiplayer games no
AI is required just rendering speed and a badly built engine shows
up straight away. this is one game that i will not pay money for.
