you could get another computer sure, but if your willing to go all
the way there is no exception. Of course I'm not sure what's worse,
paying 700 a card (I got 2 for SLI) or having to wait a month to
build my "smoker" when I have all the other componets! I
guess I am far from the only one willing to pay (and wait) for the
best. Peace!

In Australia We have x1800xt 512mb in stock for around AUS$900, the
7800GTX 512mb is AUS$1100, so i don't know where you guys get your
pricing between the two, but 7800GTX 512mb is the performance leader
now but it is significantly more expensive then the x1800xt 512mb.
And we aussies get $#!t last.

No need for OC'ing this powerful thing. Just have a very good power
supply and get a complimenting CPU. Might as well buy a Dell
24" WS LCD or anything bigger than the typical 19" LCD to
take advantage of higher resolutions. There is no point in buying
this card if you already own a high end vcard unless you have a
monitor that will utilize its strengths. You won't notice any
difference if you already own 6800 Ultra or 7800GT/GTX playing at
1280x1024 or whatever max of 19" LCD. It will just give more
fps, and maybe a few game setting options become available. I'm
playing CoD2 at 1600x1200 with basically all maxed settings on my
weak Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz and eVGA GF 7800GT build. Everything
runs eye smooth anyway. I don't notice any chugging with all the gun
fighting, smoke happenin, and lots of individuals doing their own
thing onscreen. All actions are very responsive as well, so I'm sure
I'm getting decent fps. I went cheap on CPU hoping the dual cores to
become affordable or in the price range of what I am willing to pay
within the next 3 months or so. This new 7800GTX 512MB vcard is a
great product regardless if you can afford to afford it. Awesome
card until the next wave of products are released in January anyway.

Ok, cheapest I saw was tiger for 700. I paid 500 for my gtx and I
just can't justify another 200 (300 after selling gtx.)That's based
on the only differences being core/mem speeds and amt. of ram.
Time to read all the reviews and see if there's another reason I
suppose.

Cool for people who can aford it, but I can't even get the 7800gt.
No I got an x800xl with vivo for 240 agp on sale and I'm good with
that for a while. I think it's good because it will drive down
prices of the more expensive cards. I generally like NVida better,
if only because of the drivers, but they didn't have anything with
vivo higher than the 6600 gt when I was looking for a new card. I
use the Omega drivers since it seems like ATI's driver team is
always smocking crack or something. I'm not surprised that Nvidia
took back the preformance crown. They have been testing higher
speeds for a while back when they were thinking of releasing a 7800
ultra so slaping on some more ram with those core improvements was
no big deal for them. After to get these cards with sli is for
people whom see money as no object. By the time 7800's 512MB in SLI
get's stressed running 1280x1024 a $200 card will be out that will
outpreform it, but hey if your the hardcore gamer for whom money is
no object it's the perfect card. ATI just isn't cutting it anymore,
thier 1800 release was delayed becuase of a dumb problem and the
1600 and 1300 really are inferior to everything else in thier price
ranges.

I can get some Tein Basics for my Nissan 240sx for $700....or maybe
build an entire 64bit computer. I love nVidia for giving us
excellent hardware, excellent performance, and excellent
availability, but they charge a %&!%@ %$% PREMIUM for all of that.
Thisis the price we pay for good technology. Ive never had an nVidia
based card fail on me but many ATI users I know have had such
problems. With all these fine "luxuries"(that should
simply be a standard) I still do not believe any graphics card
should be worth over $500. This is just fuggin nonsense. NVidia's
justification must be that if their graphics cards are responsible
for nearly half of the performance of a computer from a gamer's
perspective then their cards must be worth half the cost of a
computer built with their cards. If you can make a computer for $700
minus graphics, then double it for the nVidia POWA!...still fuggin
ridiculous..
Buy games 6 months after they come out so the graphics cards to play
them are cheaper and the patches are released.
