I don't like the X1800 XT, it's fat and ugly - and so is the 7800
GTX 512. Also these cards are way overpriced for the regular gamer.
Very decent performance of the 1800 in F.E.A.R. To me the current
top card is the 7800 GTX, it delivers good fps up to 1600 x 1200, is
slim and silent, and more affordable. I can't see a long lifespan
for the X1800 XT - it will soon be replaced by a faster R580. JM5Cs

Given it's price and performance compared to the GTX this card may
find its way into my next build in about a month. I still won't make
my choice until I've got the cash but it's definitely a possibility.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the typo "Finak
Verdict" on the last page yet.

"In most of those tests, the 7800 GTX 512mb won."
Ya, the 512 GTX is also astronomically more expensive...and good
luck finding one of those...I think nvidia rushed it out the door
just to have the crown back, but they took a page out of ATI's book
and it was essentially paper launched.
ATI wins handsdown as far as picture quality and gaming experience.
High frame rates don't always tell the tale

You get better video with the ATI, hands down. The 1800 being that
it cost less than Nvidia's 512 versions. I would buy ATI, but then
I wouldn't buy either because all I will ever spend on a video card
is 200 dollars. I have to wait because I don't want to upgrade my
whole system just because PCI-E. I am stuck with an AGP AMD 3200
setup. I want Shader model 3.0/16 pipes/450 clock/1000 mem AGP card
under 200 dollars. Not going to happen soon. SUCKS TO BE ME.
