(Post a comment) » Windows Vista Ready LCD Monitor Round-Up – Part 1Hasta la Vista? A good monitor is supposed to last for years, but Hollywood is going to shake things up with mandatory HDCP support for high-definition video in Windows Vista. In this round-up, Alan takes a look at 5 different HDCP-capable LCD PC monitors. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

How do you people in firingsquad tell if these monitors are HDCP
ready? in their specs doesn't say anything about HDCP (for example:
nec 's spec doesnt mention about HDCP)

I really getting sick of repeating this, and so does other people.
Read this and remember, YOU WILL NOT NEED A HDCP MONTIOR TO USE
VISTA. YOU WILL STILL USE VISTA WITH NON HDCP MONTIORS, YOU JUST
WILL NOT BE WATCHING HD-DVD AND BLU RAY MOVIES IN VISTA. EVERY THING
ESLE ISNT EFFECTED.
Now I hope you all read that and stop getting confused on what you
will need and what you will not need to beable to use vista.
If no one can understand or remember then your hopeless.

Yes true all LCDs have ghosting, Some people go it doesnt have any
ghosting but it does. It just dont do it as bad as other LCDs. Then
some people dont notice the ghost as well as others.
On that ghosting test software you listed, the only time I notice
ghosting if i put my face up on the montior and looking for it. If I
dont do that then I dont notice it at all.

I emailed Alan (via his email address on his site -- the "Send
me a Message!" feature you get if you click on his profile
above is another piece of firingsquad.com software that's broken) to
notify him of my post and he replied to my questions via email. I
asked him if he was going to follow up to this thread as well, but
he did not respond, so I will go ahead and summarize his reply for
others' benefit.
The reason the story has been delayed was the arrival of the NEC
20GX2. He said it was due to finally arrive today (Monday), so
hopefully part 2 will be forthcoming soon.
In answer to my question about the ViewSonic VP231wb, he noted that
it's technically been discontinued (though it still shows up in the
Pro Series product menu on viewsonic.com, albeit without a displayed
MSRP), and figured that that's why ViewSonic didn't mention its
existence to him.
Kind of a pity since that appears to be the only HDCP-compliant
1920x1200 IPP LCD that's existed, and supposedly the IPPs (even with
overdrive??) don't suffer from the frame lag problems that the more
recent PVA/MVA + overdrive designs do.
Alan has confirmed independently that the VP2330wb does support
HDCP, though, despite its lack of mention on viewsonic.com (in
contrast to VP2330wb's page).
In answer to my questions about the best 1920x1200 HDCP LCD to go
with, he gave a sneak preview of part 2 saying that the Samsung 244T
has superior color accuracy and pixel refresh to the VP2330wb.
After a lot of considering, I finally decided to go with the much
cheaper Dell 2005FPW for now, since my Macs will not have
replaceable graphics cards and thus will need to be repl

If you're waiting for the ViewSonic VP2330wb, don't bother. Post the
review without it, everyone knows how the 8 ms P-MVA performs ;)

Really looking forward to this review - I was very impressed with
the quality of the review of PureVideo and Avivo. I'm looking to
get a high resolution (1920x1200, hopefully) widescreen monitor for
use for work, games and movies; I've got an IR receiver and remote
for the computer and a sofa in the study.
HDCP definitely matters to me, it's unlikely it'll be avoidable; the
powers that be are wising up to cracks and how to stop them. And
I'd rather not be always searching online for a way to get round
things!
Movie image quality is probably the most important to me; with the
lastest monitors I'll be fine for work, and games are not the
highest on the priority list, but I do notice poor quality video.
However, I'm also interested in the lag issue, if only from a techie
point of view! The videos on the net showing a CRT and an LCD
hooked up to the same graphics card are very revealing, definitely a
noticeable lag to the image on the LCD. I never quite worked out
whether it was on all LCDs or only on the Dell 2405.
Have you heard any rumours about the Dell 2407? Meant to be the
2405 but with HDCP and slightly better response time. I'm guessing
it's the same panel as the Samsung 244T but with the card readers
etc. from the 2405, and if so I'm very interested in your thoughts
on the Samsung. Particularly as I'm sure you'll be trying it out
with a correctly configured Avivo system - so often I see reviews
talking about a monitor's DVD playback quality without any mention
of what MPEG2 decoder setup they have.

Second part, please. It's been 11 days. And don't forget to test the
input lag :)
