This is an amazing game setting a new standard, and now when I play other games I find myself comparing the graphics and atomosphere to Doom3.
Lighting: You can't enjoy this game without turning up the gamma, search the net for the console-commands to change this in the game. If you don't do this, you'll continually get pissed off.
Hardware: This game requires VAST amounts of system power. don't let reports of geforce 4's running an athlon 1500+ fool you. If you have anything less than a geforce 6800 and an athlon 64 with 1GB+ RAM than your going to find problems with this game. You'll also need to find the console-commands to set up your specific hardware properly for doom 3 on the net.
The fact that you have to edited so much in the console to get the best game expieriance is tough, but at least we have the option. Personally I went from an athlon 2600+ to an Athlon64 3200+ and the difference was amazing, like night and day. The monsters seemed to come to life and it actually became harder to play the game because all of the monsters could now react like thier supposed to. This also happened in Far-cry. Processor makes a big difference in this game.
The name of the game is DOOM 3, not half life, not far cry, not anything else that has the "features" we've supposebly come to expect as some reviewers would have you believe.
If ID made this game with night vision and secondary fire and monsters that don't pop out, it wouldn't be doom. I sure would rather have monsters pop out at me than walk in to a room full of monsters conversing and my presence startles them, like in far-cry. That would just be stupid.
THEY ARE MONSTERS, there supposed to pop out and kill you, not pace down the hallway as if thier guarding a door.
Night vision would have killed the atomosphere.
Secondary fire is nice in a game, but unrealistic in real life. How many of the weapons that the marines use today come with secondary fire?
Flashlight: Change the gamma settings and you won't use it so much.
I think the game could've been longer, with more enemies per scene and more open areas. More use of the mars surface would've been nice, and more levels in hell would've been as well. Last guy should've been satin and not a giant cyber demon (Doom 4?). |
