Ever since the Original Dark Forces game, gamers world wide yearned for more, and they got it. Set a few years after the highly aclaimed Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy places you in the shoes of a Jedi Padawan keen on learning the ways of the force.
The first thing you'll note with glee, is that you start off with the lightsaber right away, none of this fighting your way through hoards of storm troopers with a blaster craving the weapon we all love so much.
But if you thought that was cool, there's more. You can customise your character at the start of the game, selecting race, clothing and even building your very own lightsaber.
The game lets you choose your missions which are set in many classic star wars locations. As your progress, your force powers grow stronger. But the ultimate decision you msut make, is whether you stick to the light side of the force, or cross to the dark.Ohh spooky!
Many people complain that the levels are too short and too easy. OK, some I will admit are very easy but I found the shorter levels good for 2 reasons. 1: You don't get bored of the same old dark hallways as you could easily in Jedi Outcast.2: You travel to many different locations which gives the game a more " Star Warsy " feel.
Whack in the immersive Star Wars music score from the movies and the whole game fits together quite nicly and you'll find yourself cursing the dark jedi as the music climaxs as you defeat them.
Oh yes... not giving to much away, but you do at some point in the game get the chance to use the Darth Maul style dual-saber and Duel Sabers ( one in each hand ). This is a very very cool feature of the game and makes it oh so much fun.
The game does feel a bit like a very good Jedi Outcast Expansion Pack at times, but it's saving grace is a fantastic multiplayer option with several new modes including the highly addictive Siege mode, where one team defends a building and the other attacks. You can also customise your multiplayer character's apperance and choose to weild dual sabers, saber staff or the classic single saber.
This game is fun, and if you've ever dreamed of being a jedi and weilding a lightsaber, this is the game for you. |
