- As of right now, none.

- 9500 Pro: A faster card than the 9600 PRO. It's in a class of it's own as far as price / performance ratio goes.

The release of the 9600 PRO reminds me a lot of the Radeon 9000 PRO card. Simply put, there was no reason the buy the 9000 Pro card, because the 8500/8500 LE were not only better cards, but were around the same price, if not, cheaper than the 9000 Pro. ATI puzzles me on moves like this, as I simply don't see a REASON for paying the same or MORE for something that doesn't even compete with it's predecessor (even the vanilla 9500 beat the 9600 PRO in certain instances.)
The only good thing that MIGHT come out of this would be that someone finds a way to unlock the 9600 and make it into a 9800 (like they did with the 9500 - 9700s). Either that, or hopefully it is an AMAZING overclocker. Other than that, there is only one choice for someone looking for a card in the $170 - 200 dollar range: 9500 Pro. It's all that and the reciept. |
