OK, picky about RAM

Rating:
80%
by: fastwaytech ( May 28, 2004 )
Experience: < 1 Week

» Pros
Ton of features: High quality built-in sound, NVIDIA MX 4 Video, LAN. ASUS quality

» Cons
Very picky on RAM, BIOS sucks.

» Review
Just got it to put together s system for my mom. Nice built-in features, everything I needed but a modem. But when I first tried to set it up, I had problems because it was picky about the ram. I bought some generic 512 MB stick of RAM (333 MHZ), wouldn't work right. I replced it with the ram in my other PC (Shuttle AK35GTR/AMD 1400 MHZ), and it worked fine. THat was some Mushkin RAM that I had. I put the cheap ram in the shuttle, worked fine. The funny thing is the Mushkin ram is only like 133 MHZ, but runs fine at 333! lol

The other weakness is the BIOS: you cannot tweak much of anything.

Good budget board, but remember to get a name brand ram, which is going to add some to the total cost of your system build.
