A viable alternative to the expensive NV40 and R420 cards.

Rating:
90%
by: deinabog ( September 11, 2004 )
Experience: 3 Months - 6 Months

» Pros
-Fast in new games such as Doom 3 and very fast in older titles.
-Excellent dual-fan cooling solution. Copper too!
-Gold-plated bracket for VGA and DVI connections.
-256MB of RAM.
-VIVO.

» Cons
-Still expensive for an older card.
-Smart Doctor sucks with this card.

» Review
Despite the release of the NV40 and R420 graphics processors from Nvidia and ATI respectively I've found this video card a very capable performer. It's a full-length AGP monster but it's able to run Doom 3 on my box at 1024x768 at High resolution without a single hiccup.

Some hardcore hardware harpies might chirp gleefully about higher framerates and PS 3.0 support with their NV40 boards, which is all good. But ASUS's V9980 Ultra deserves a place in any gamer's rig. I give it high marks and my endorsement.
